Completing Tygorikro’s school in Côte d’Ivoire

2025

Côte d’Ivoire

Action realized with: MESAD

A complete school for the village

As part of its “School for All” project, MESAD initiated the construction of a 3-classroom school in the small rural village of Tygorikro (Abengourou municipality) in 2020. Unfortunately, the arrival of COVID brought the project to a halt, leaving the building half-built.

Raised awareness of the importance of education by MESAD, the village community approached the Abengourou municipality about the need to finish the school. A first building with 3 classrooms was erected, but the work initiated by MESAD was not completed.

With the arrival of 3 teachers, this first part of the school enabled around 100 children from the village and nearby hamlets to be enrolled by the start of the 2023-2024 school year. But this was still not enough to accommodate the nearly 400 school-age children in the village and surrounding area.

With the aim of contributing to the development of education in Côte d’Ivoire, the 1% For Education Fund joined forces with MESAD to complete the school.

The community’s requests were heard, and a second 3-classroom building was built by the municipality in early 2024, much to the delight of parents.

The fund’s support was then directed towards finalizing the construction of the building started by MESAD and opening 3 preschool classrooms. A delegation of 5 Maped employees visited the site to complete the finishing touches and inaugurate the new classrooms.

As a result of the project, the Tygorikro school now comprises 9 classrooms, an office and a water tower, enabling the majority of the community’s children to benefit from schooling.

By the start of the 2025 school year, the school covers all 3 preschool levels and 6 primary levels.
