Desks for school in Burundi

Action realized with: I Bambini dell'Africa
Political instability in Burundi over the past few decades has destroyed nearly all basic social infrastructure, including schools.
With the restoration of the state, a large number of internally displaced people and refugees have started to return to their places of origin. The country is now in the process of reconstruction.
The AFEVBU (Aid for Vulnerable Women and Children in Burundi) association, a local partner of the Italian organization IBA, has been working on this reconstruction since 2018. In particular, their efforts focus on promoting the rights of women and children and ensuring their full integration into the country’s social life.
As part of their work, they identified the significant needs of the Anania Primary School in the municipality of Cibitoke, located at the border with the DRC. This border area hosts many refugee camps for those fleeing the frequent conflicts in Eastern DRC, including many children.
To accommodate as many children as possible, the school is organized in half-day shifts: preschool and primary levels in the morning, and secondary level in the afternoon.
To improve the learning environment for the 585 students, the 1% For Education Fund financed the production and delivery of 140 desks, as well as tables and chairs for the teachers.
